I have several of these little silks packets I will be listing over the next week, so check back. This is a Kensitas Flower Silk, Honeysuckle. The flower is actually embroidered onto the backing fabric. Though they are commonly called silks, the fabrics used were typically satins and poplin's.
These little silks were released in a wide variety of themes and images by various cigarette companies in an effort to get home sewers enthusiastic about their men smoking. The small and medium silks were packaged with the tobacco products while the larger silks were sent for when one had enough purchase stamps to get it. It is getting increasingly difficult to find these in good condition as they near their 100th Anniversary. Most end up in collections all over the world.
I have a number of these silks in the small and medium sizes and I will be kitting them up with my overgrown crazy quilt stash as Embellishment Packets themed to the individual silk.
You will get 1 medium sized Kensitas Honeysuckle silk, several dozen yards of fibers carefully selected to match and accent your silk, and a packet of buttons, beads and Glass crystals to embellish your crazy quilt project. This collection is suitable for small crazy quilt projects such as an individual block, a trinket box, a small purse or anything of similar size.
The silk is approx 2"x3" and is free of marks or blemishes. It will come in a protective see through card cover. The fibers include hand dyed flosses with metallic accents, silk ribbons and a variety of yarns, threads and trims selected to match.
The vintage silks do NOT appear to be colorfast. I have some that show evidence of bleeding onto the background fabric. I would use care to select a project for them that does not come in contact with water.
If you have any questions, just email me.International buyers welcome. Please contact me before purchase to work out shipping. I do combine items bought in the same week to reduce shipping costs.
