The Grande Mosquée de Paris was built in 1926 as a token of gratitude to the Muslims from France's colonial empire, of whom around 100,000 died fighting against Germany during World War I. Today, it's a lovely place to visit on a sunny day; you can sit in the tiled patio, listen to fountains, and drink a refreshing cup of mint tea.
