'Blue Nebulae' is an antique glass fishing float that may stretch the imagination toward enjoying interstellar contemplation! How's that for a 'timeless' coffee break, just when you need an escape from work?

This marvelous antique hand blown collector's piece measures 3-1/2" diameter or 10-5/8" in circumference - the size typically referred to by collectors as 'baseball' size. Blue Nebulae will show off best in bright or direct light, especially in sunlight. The high quality antique glass shows normal surface wear for its many decades of service at sea, yet you won't notice this as its 'marbled' surface captures the imagination. In fact, my perception may have become so mesmerized by these magnificent artifacts that any surface wear now seems part of the natural art. Yet I still feel obligated to mention 'surface wear' - though it seems almost irrelevant.

Blue Nebulae's special features contributed to its name. The float is beautifully graced with 'ghost net' patterning throughout its surface, contrasting with gorgeous glowing, clear areas that show glossy and sheen. The 'ghost net' patterns were created by decades of heavy sand-blasting that etched or 'frosted' the glass between the tines of the net it once wore. I always say the wind, water and sand are nature's paint-brush, with the glass being the canvas for this brilliant natural art!

The quality antique glass is wonderfully thick and heavy. It represents a 'galaxy' of enormous bubbling, thick clusters like the Milky Way, along with subtle swirling in the glass. Add all this 'movement', this 'dance' to the marbled look of the frosted 'ghost' patterning and the float easily takes the imagination to the interstellar or cosmic materials from which the stars and star clusters are created! The float resembles clouds of dust and gases from which are born the stars! You might enjoy the wealth of photos and videos created by NASA on the newer nebulae and star clusters. Enjoy space along with this excellent representative of the old sea arts.

Notice the seal 'button' in photo #3 and the 'eye' in center. It is almost hauntingly pretty and shows a slight aqua colored 'iris'. The 'eye' stands out and appears 'yellow' in some lighting when the angle is just right! There may have been an attempt to mark the seal. I see evidence of this, but nothing definitive. Often the iron slips, or portions of marks morph into the warm, undulating topography of the seal as it cools. No matter, as the seals always represent a fascinating study, each being a unique artifact. This one is impressive and lovely. The surround edge is in amazing condition, showing just two teeny, tiny spots of the slightest grazing that it's barely worth mentioning. However, I like you to know everything I'm aware of. One portion of the very periphery of the seal (edge) shows some discoloration in the photo. This is normal - just some natural stain from sand or soil.

Notice 'Blue Nebulae' posing with the lovely sage lime green float, called 'Summer Solstice' in photo #4. The photo was taken for fun and to demonstrate coloration. Summer Solstice is not part of this sale. However, it may be seen in the following link if you wish:
