"I've seen scarves from all over the world but none have had the perfection of the Chinese scarves," Vera said. "I thought it would be a great coup to make scarves there."
And so she did, for only one year (1974) in Shanghai, to celebrate her company's 30th year anniversary. This marked the first time that American designs were produced in the People's Repulic of China and made for sale in the United States. Vera was as much a trend-setter in business as she was in design!
Only 8 designs were created that year for Chinese production, so these scarves are very rare!
Pay attention to the Vera signature and you will see its uniqueness! The Chinese characters you see mean "truth" and "honesty", which is how Vera's name translates.
The scarf was made with pure, thick, incredible Chinese silk. It features Vera's fabulous brushwork, created with ink and her favorite Sumi-E Brush, which form elaborate clouds in deep ocean blue over white silk.
A hand-rolled hem adds contrast and tailoring, and shows the quality and care that went into the creation of every single Vera scarf.
Measures 26 1/2" square. Lovely vintage condition... lines of soling along two horizontal folds and a 1/2" spot along the side hem may well launder in your hands or with a proper dry cleaning.
