"Woodstock is more than a moment in time.
It is about a way of being in the world..."
The Woodstock Community

in human history, there are places which become synonymous with events.
the Berlin wall...Dealey Plaza in Dallas...Hiroshima...Katrina...

most of these events brought about change.
big change.
and we use short-hand to elicit their memories and impressions.

in the Peace movement, the grandaddy to Occupy,
we can look at the riots, at the proliferation of war...
or we can look at the times of hope and joy.

The festival at Woodstock was a lot of things.
but above all, it was a victory.

a victory of cooperation and rolling with the punches.
Wavy Gravy and his band of altruists stepped in to
keep the peace. doctors and nurses spent their vacations
in the trenches of mud and drugs.

and the Art Colony of Woodstock (which began in 1902)
stepped in to work with the farmers and the organizers,
in an effort to feed and care for the festival-goers...

these Children of God were walkin along the road,
trying to get back to the land, and get their souls free...

for each of them, at Woodstock,
something inside them changed.
something inside them stepped up to the plate.

just like in olden days, when Dragons appeared in the sky,
and archers like Apollo stepped in, to keep the peace.

to my mind, there are Dragons to be slayed now.

there is great change afoot in the world...

and those of us who see it will need to change,
from the inside out, if we hope to save our planet and our future.

i send this WOODSTOCK pack out into this troubled world
with a message of peace and hope:
time to get back to the land, and get our souls free!
