SUBJECT: "...from the Stock of the late Duke of Bedford" reads part of the text on this fantastic engraving long separated from the massive work in which it appeared, Rees's Cyclopedia, edited by Reverend Abraham Rees and published by Longman, Horst, Rees & Orme, Printers to the King. The Cyclopedia was published in 39 volumes of text and five volumes of plates between January 1802 and August 1820. This plate, dated May 28th, 1808, was devoted to the Suffolk Punch draft horse, referred to here as "Suffolk Agricultural Punch Horse." This is a marvelous depiction of the mighty Suffolk Punch as the English breed appeared over two hundred years ago.

HORSE NOTES: The Suffolk Punch was an absolute sensation in Britain, bullish in strength and work ethic, sensible and sweet in personality, and was later exported to the United States with much fanfare.

ITEM DETAILS: This antique book plate measures 8.25 x 10.5 inches and is in excellent condition for its age. Impressions and perforations appear along the left edge of the page, artifacts of the original signature-stitched binding. Foxing, the age-related toning and rusting commonly found in vintage and antique works on paper, is present at the edges of the heavy paper. The back of the page is blank.

SHIPPING & HANDLING: Paper items are wrapped with care in acid-free sleeves, placed between sheets of cardboard and shipped in secure packaging within two business days of purchase.

VINTAGE: All vintage and antique items have unique histories and are offered for sale in exactly the condition they were found, sold “AS IS.”
