FOR THE COLLECTOR-

This very rare, ornate, miniature 1800's Canton Ginger Jar handpainted in the Rose Famillia pattern is an example of one of the first "Made for Export " items out of Fuedal China. An amazing example of survival, this little pot is the only miniature antique ginger jar I have ever seen with the original lid.

Process: The porcelain base was cast and fired in a kiln, then colored background washes wre painted on; next step, standup "pebble" glazes were painted with a tiny horsehair brush to form the darker outines. Then the pot was dipped in a clear glaze and fired at a higher temperature. Last of all a 24 Karat gold overglaze was applied and the pot was fired in a very low temperature.

Illustrations: FRONT- 2 birds and a butterfly flit in a Rose Garden painted inside a white panel framed by aqua "Chinese Lattice" designs. BACK-Courtyard scene; a young woman sits in a window chatting with two men. Bottom: unusual red chop bordered by words Handpainted Decoration Made in China.
