This vintage lighter is made by Apex and features a Niello inlaid background and a silver of a Siamese goddess dancer on one side and a building on the other. According to Wilipedia.com: Niello is a black mixture of copper, silver, and lead sulphides, used as an inlay on engraved or etched metal. It can be used for filling in designs cut from metal. Most likely the silver engravings are Sterling, but aren't marked

This is a butane lighter that is filled on the bottom.

The silver inlay has amazing detail. There is one area on the curved side that has a substantial chip in the niello.

This small lighter measures 1 1/2" tall (including the damper) and 1 1/2" wide. It is a slender oval shape and is 1/2" thick at the thickest point.

It uses the standard flint/damper mechanism for lighting. It fully plunges when depressed and even sparks. The screw cap on the bottom is missing. There is no fuel in it and has not been tested.

It could use a cleaning and the metal shows signs of wear with areas of corrosion and rust.

The bottom is marked Apex with a triangle.

Nielloware items from Thailand were popular gifts from American soldiers taking "R&R" in Thailand to their girlfriends/wives back home from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Despite it's shortcomings, this little lighter is very unusual, unique and in my opinion, still a great collectors piece!
