It is not often that I find a scalloped glass dish at my local thrift stores. And it’s even harder to find a glass one that is colored throughout and not painted (which doesn’t wear well). So I was really pleased to find this gold scalloped plate and knew it would be a good start to a glass flower. When I found the smaller gold bowl that has an etched crisscross design, I was thrilled. It really causes the reflected light to sparkle. Eventually I found some more scalloped plates and bowls and put it all together.

Originally made as a sun catcher, this turned out just too pretty to put outdoors. With five layers, it is heavy, so it would be difficult to securely display on a stake. It looks lovely displayed on a stand, especially when the sun hits it.

One day I was looking for other ways to use some of my creations. I had some cut flowers and realized that I could use this piece to hold them. It can hold water, so I cut the flower stems short and stuck them between the layers. It could still hold a candle, and I think it turned out really pretty with this unexpected use.

With this color combination, it is perfect for a fall or Thanksgiving celebration. If you don’t buy it, I may use it myself. (Not really, I am not hosting Thanksgiving this year.)

Everything in my Etsy store is one of a kind. I have made each creation with heirloom, vintage, and/or found glassware, re-purposed for contemporary living.

Since the individual pieces have been pre-owned, some may show slight abrasion or wear patterns, although I do examine them carefully. I hope you will see that as part of the charm of a re-purposed item.

I use a professional adhesive that can withstand variations in temperature, which means these items can be displayed indoors or out. Some of my pieces combine lead crystal and pressed glass, so I can’t predict how they may fare in real extreme outdoor conditions. However, I have some in my yard that are doing well in the searing Maryland summer sun and the winter snow.

Most of my creations would also make unique wedding gifts—especially for those who like vintage or hand-made items. Gift wrapping is available for an additional fee.
