This is a fantastic retro ice grater to make a “Grattachecca”, 1960-1970s.
“Grattachecca” is the name of a popular cold dessert originary of Rome, Italy. This dessert, commonly sold in kiosks and bars, consists of manually scratched ice flavored with fruit juice and pieces of fruit. It has a coarser and less homogeneous appearance than the Sicilian popular Granita.
The grater has an interior empty space to store the scratched ice necessary to fill a cup. The body is in aluminum and is decorated with geometrical motifs. On the bottom is written “Alluminio purissimo – “Alluminio Cane” – Made in Italy”
It is in good vintage condition, with some scratches due to use and time.
