In 1945 my father moved his parents from Ohio to Normandie Avenue in Hollywood, California. He purchased the furnished model bungalow for them. The TV was purchased much later. This is the way I remember it. It had a tiny kitchen in which my Grandmother prepared ten course meals late into her eighties. Both grandparents were from Sicily, Italy. Her cooking came naturally to her and everything was delicious. I wish I had watched her more closely. Grandma had a sweet tooth, she put coffee in her sugar, and loved chocolate! She loved to sew, knit and crochet. She was a very talented woman. Her family was her life. She only spoke "broken" English, but I always understood her. I have no idea if the bungalow still exists, but I have never forgotten it. It was my inspiration for this roombox.
The scale is 1/12, and the box came as an unfinished kit. It has a plexiglass roof to allow for more light. I hand painted the box, the dinnerware, and made all of the food being served. The box measures 19" long, 10 1/2" high, 8 1/2" deep. I have glued only the tiny pieces in place. The furniture and figures can be moved around to your liking. This roombox makes a great display and conversation piece. It is in pristine condition, and delights children and adults a like.
