Cool vintage gift...
Gordon Grant is considered one of the greatest maritime painters of ships, his individually signed prints and original paintings sell today for $425 and up at major galleries. A web site devoted to him is linked below. Here's a grand volume of 306 pages with lots of information in mostly fantastic, full-page, black & white drawings, and about 5 color prints printed in the 1930's, illustrated throughout with historical sailing vessels. Wrap in paper & you may have a unique gift book. I will be listing a thin volume of his color prints as well. Selling other antique books in my store here at http://JoyandWhimsy.etsy.com
And vintage fashion at http://ConservationClothing.etsy.com

More on this hefty, grand volume, illustrated in black & white with about 5 colorprints too...

Subjects book covers: Ancient galleys from ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, the Vikings. Also 17th century galley and Galleas.
Most of the book covers Round Ships from the Medieval days to the 1800s. Includes so many boats from 13th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Numerous boats including English warships to the carrack, the bugalet, lugger, howker, felucca, tartane, Norwegian Cat, Bilander, Ketch, Fire Ship, The Pink, Patache, Polacre, Xebec, Saique, brig, the Snow, Corvette, Topsail Schooner, Goelette, Packet Ship, New Bedford Whaling Bark, Barquentine, Clipper Ship of 1850, the Modern Super Ship, and more. Most of these ships sailed the Mediterranean, North American oceans, Europe, West Indian area.

306 pages total.
Approximately 53 illustrations throughout, most with their own pages.
Published in the 30's
Very big, thick & stocky book, measuares: 8 x 11 inches and is 1 1/2 inches thick.

Condition: Book is over 80 years old......
Pages have tanned with age like a fine wine, but not too dark, just a bit of a tan here & there - pages seem strong & clean. No rust, no mildew - old but clean.
No scribbles, no tears do I see.
Hardcover, no dust jacket. Purple cloth cover that is very sunfaded in many areas. If you antique gift it, you may want to cover it in a book jacket, but it looks nice Spine has author's name & title in gold text, outlined in navy blue, with a print of an anchor on it. Was privately owned (not a library copy) yet has no owner signature in it.

Any other flaws are minor and expected of vintage so this is not a mint condition book, but for someone looking for something unique, this is smooth sailing cool.
A wonderful resource Captain Bly would've loved.
