The illustrations in this double-sided locket are taken from the 1926 edition of Tales Told in Holland (My Travelship series), with beautiful illustrations by Maud and Miska Petersham. The book was my mother's as a child and is now falling apart. My husband bought me a replacement copy several Christmases ago so now I am looking for ways to salvage some of the beautiful illustrations in the old edition.

The illustration in the locket is of a mermaid discovered in a pond near a Dutch town and captured by the town's citizens, who attempt to "civilize" her. One side shows the mermaid in the pond; the reverse shows the surprised face of the farm girl who came to fill her buckets with water and discovered the mermaid. (To learn the rest of the story, look for very affordable copies of this gorgeous book on Amazon).

This is a "bubble" locket, with domed glass that magnifies the images. It is just 1 inch in diameter, but the images look bigger. Because of the domed glass, it was hard to get photos without some reflection.

The 4th photo shows chain choices for this locket. I put it on a 24" antiqued silver tone chain but you can also choose a silver plated or 'vintage blue' ball chain. Just note your preference at checkout.
