Variscite is a hydrated aluminum phosphate mineral. It is a secondary mineral formed by direct deposition from phosphate-bearing water that has reacted with aluminum-rich rocks in a near-surface environment. It is a semi-precious stone that was first described in 1837 and named for the locality of Variscia which is the historical name of the Vogtland in Germany. Variscite has also been called Utahlite, Lucinite and Variquoise. The Leaf comes from the Ken and Grada Bowsma collection. Ken and Grada cut these lovely leaves during the 70"s at the height of the Turquoise phenomenon and we breathed new life into them with zam and a muzlin buff. This particular leaf is carved on one side and flat on the other. This stone is from the famous locality in Lucin, Utah.

Variscite is said to calm and soothe the mind and to give a person hope and courage.
