About This Image:

Hide and Seek is about the pictures we create of who we are and what we want the world around us to see. We piece it together as a jigsaw puzzle. A mosaic of pieces, often ill fitting and unmatched because we are trying so hard to be something other than what is true.

And then, of course, there are places where the pieces simply are not there at all.
Burned away

We have holes too.
And what others can see, through those holes, are the scars left behind.
The raw and unperfected parts of ourselves.
The long forgotten landscape of who we were.
Still healing
From all of the damage we have done to ourselves
In the rush to become. . .

"Hide and Seek"

A little red roof along the corner
A piece of cloudless sky of blue
The ripples in a puddle emanating outward
It's a three sided puzzle piece with only one possible home
We pick it up it here and there
Stare at it and then, frustrated, we return it to the box
Lose it for a time beneath hundreds of others
So similar
Many of which we have tried to make fit
And they are almost the same but. . .
A little shy on this one side
Not enough edge over there
Too dark or too light
Filling the holes in a puzzle
Those burning spaces among the almost perfect picture
Our landscape incomplete
And maybe better to be this way
Rather than to be complete
Because when it's done
We'd just tear it all apart again
