This original 1930's Art Deco styled electric fan is in excellent working condition and great condition overall! I believe this particular model was built in 1938. This fan would be right at home sitting in the dressing rooms of contemporary actors like Errol Flynn or Spencer Tracy, or perhaps doing it's best to cool off Betty Davis in Selznick's office after he gave the Scarlett Ohara role in "Gone with the Wind" to Vivien Leigh!

I love the obvious Art Deco character with the cast iron octagonal base, octagonal wire frame cage and the angular leaf petal pattern grill design coming to a flower-like center in the middle with the silver and black GE script logo.

It is made of all metal. It's design is incredibly classy looking. It feels heavy and solid like a well built vintage antique. It works like it never plans to do anything else but keep on going! And, it moves air quickly and quietly for such a small fan.

The paint style is slightly textured, dark but not glossy, black. It belongs firmly in the 30's and feels even earlier. There are some chips in the paint on the grill, some paint rubs on the base, motor and blades. All of those things only add to it's fantastic vintage character. None of it's wear is major and there are no dents or dings. The wear is so minor overall that I suggest touching it up with dabs of magic marker or shoe polish in the little bits of wear it does have. I would do it myself, but I don't like to hide anything if I am selling it. Buyers may prefer it exactly as it is. Pure vintage.

One interesting design element is the fact that there is no On/Off switch. Plug it in and it goes! So, you might like to put this on a switched outlet, a power strip or any cord with a switch on it. Any store like Target carries them. It was designed to be able to work just fine being plugged and un-plugged, so you certainly can do that, but for ease of use, I like a switch of some kind, personally.

It tilts up and down by using the wing-nut on the neck. It is not designed to oscillate. The fan blade is 8 inches in diameter. It does have two holes in the base for mounting it to a wall or even the ceiling, which is perfect if you have little ones but don't want to give up your style and creature comforts! It is not a large fan, so for smaller spaces, at your desk, in a kitchen, a moderate sized living space, the bedroom, etc...it's perfect, even for a really hot day, this will do the job and look awesome doing it! If you want to cool a whole room and really circulate a lot of air, you'll want something bigger.

While there are paint chips and rubs to the top, evidence of the care this fan was given includes the fact that the base is in near mint condition. The label is completely intact and looks fantastic. Even the original octagonal trimmed felt on the bottom looks just amazing! The rubber cord is pliable and looks good, as does the two prong plug. Please be sure to maintain this treasure by giving it oil once in a blue moon and it will likely reward you with another 75 years or so of service for taking care of it!
