Heavy as Zeus's thunder bolt, this antique glass fishing float will thrill you once it's in the palm of the hand - with the weight alone! If it was any thicker, the glass would simply refuse to be photo'd and it nearly did anyway! The photos absolutely do no justice to this incredible ancient beauty! If you aren't thrilled - I'll even pay the return shipping!

Eternal Monsoon was named to reflect the profound mass of 'movement' in the hand blown antique glass. This amazing float measures 3-3/8" diameter or 10-1/2" in circumference, typically referred to by collectors for quick reference, as approximate 'baseball' size. This wonderful, very high quality old glass shows normal wear after many decades of toil and journey at sea. Yet the surface glows and sparkles with rich luster like hand buffed wax on my Grandmother's floor - which we loved to slide on in our socks!

Eternal Monsoon appears ready to blow right out of its surface without notice! As though any moment the temporarily suspended liquid, which we imagine to be a solid, will simply erupt - spilling an entire monsoon of bubbling, swirling, waves, rippling - and GONE is the float! The energy of this miracle in glass is the energy of a geysers, the energy of an unexpected monsoon - contained or trapped as a round glass statue, a toad that's really a Prince, a trilobite or some ancient preserved artifact - secret that may change form entirely at any moment! This is one of the most exciting floats you or I will ever come across and the photos entirely don't capture it!

The float shows bubbling of all shapes and sizes: a galaxy of bubbling from the 'Milky Way' effect to tear drops, rain drop shapes, 'windows' into space, tiny 'comets - too much fun and mega movement in this gorgeous glass! There is a lovely gossamer purple trace swirling across one side below the equatorial area.

Note several photos show a hint of lavender or purply hue in the peripheral glass. When glass is bent (or in the 'round) and the angle of light is just so, it has the effect of exaggerating color like colors of a sunset on the horizon. This is why you'll see a hint of purple, except from the tiny gossamer purple swirl line, the light lavender or purple would be traces of concentrated color in the vat of melted glass that perhaps were not entirely melted. The float is not actually purple but the overtones are lovely. The float will definitely dazzle and mesermize the senses, being a multi-faceted piece of natural art. It appears light blue, cerulean, aqua, silvery, and has many changing 'faces'. Indeed an indescribable beauty that must be seen and held to be fully appreciated.

Eternal Monsoon also exhibits an 'imbedded object'. Observe this in photo #2, around the middle, to the left you'll note a little speck. It's fully imbedded and may be felt with a finger tip. 'Imbedded objects' are coveted by many collectors. They may be bits of wood, tiny pieces of rock or sand, bits of seaweed, oven brick or ash, fabric, even bits of metal or wire. This 'object' appears to be oven brick. I always view imbedded objects as an opportunity to make a wish - and why not!

The seal 'button' is equally an artifact as is the entire piece! This one is very thick and sturdy, large and rounded. It shows fine craftsmanship and very good placement. The surround edge is about 70% smooth with some shallow grazing to about 30%. It is common to find at least light grazing to seals and often lots of chipping as the seals are exposed to impact blows, and all the challenges one may imagine while working at sea. The floats are living 'treasures', miracles really when you think about it.

Eternal Monsoon shows a clear strike mark in the form of an Arabic numeral '1'. Arabic numerals were commonly used to mark floats, especially '1' through '6' with several later numbers being less common. However, it's estimated that only 20% of floats were marked. So any marks are welcome and special to my thinking. If you know someone who is 'number 1' in your life, Eternal Monsoon may make a lovely gift! Or perhaps YOU are 'number 1' - and more power to you!
