Since a lot of the gems I deal with are very expensive in larger sizes, my goal is to find ways to make a small gem look more prominent. A one carat alexandrite - a real one - can cost up to $6000 per carat.

This piece is also real, but much smaller, about 3mm or .15 carats. It's Brazilian in origin (the Russian stuff is long gone). It has nice overtones of teal and a good color change (see last picture). I get all my alex from Precious Pebbles, the premier Alex dealer in New York. They are specialists in that material, and I can trust their purchases.

The little side stone next to the alex is a champagne diamond. Aside from the 14K yellow gold bezel, all materials are sterling silver.

The ring measures 13mm, or 1/2 an inch, and with the bail you get 18mm or close to a 3/4 inch. The sterling chain is 18 inches long.

Alexandrite is the birthstone of June.
