This beautiful Native American and cougar totem is made of ceramic bisque and hand painted with chalk. I prefer to use chalk when I want a natural look to my bisque. Nature is never totally uniform in colors, that's what makes every snowflake and every flower unique. The same goes for each piece of bisque I chalk or paint, each one is unique and one of a kind. Chalking is a technique very few of us still use. It is a very detailed and time consuming practice that takes many layers of chalk to bring the piece to life. It is a labor of love for me, I take a lot of pride in each unique piece I make.
