This exquisite fine porcelain Japanese tea cup and saucer is all hand painted with a lovely scene of two Egrets (herons) in a lake or marsh with overhanging branches and grass lined shore. The colors are wonderfully blended and accented with gilded gold in the scene as well as the bamboo style handle and rim.

The backstamp is very faint but you can make out that it says Nippon and Hand Painted with the Torri Gate Stamp in red.

The condition is very good with only a small flea bite on the inner rim. It doesn't show from the outside and you have to use your finger around the rim to know it's there. Otherwise this set is in wonderful condition. The gold is still very vivid and the scene on the cup and the saucer are amazing. My husband and I purchased this set at an estate sale in Tallahassee. It was previously owned by an elderly couple who collected Japanese art.
