This fair trade banana fiber was produced by a women's collective in Nepal, whom I've worked with for years. Your purchase helps these women escape poverty and educate their children. This particular pack of banana fiber is comprised of extra fine strands of fiber and is very uniform in texture; it weighs 3.5 oz (100 grams).

Banana fiber is made from banana trees using sustainable methods that do not harm the tree. Banana fiber is used in Nepal and India to make cheap fabric; this recycled banana fiber was reclaimed by a women’s collective in Nepal that collects banana fabric waste from textile factories. Recycled banana fiber is similar in appearance to recycled silk fiber, with a nice shine. However, the texture is quite different - it behaves as though it has a lot of static electricity, clinging to itself and everything else. This is loose recycled fiber, it is clean but not carded or combed. Additional quantities are available. If you prefer combed fiber, check out my white silk roving. I also carry baby camel roving and colorful recycled sari silk fiber - click here to see all my fiber listings:
