Get to know one of the rarer sheep breeds with this all natural Hog Island sheep batt. Hog Island sheep are one of the few American-made breeds. They were feral sheep on an island off the coast of Virginia, but when the island was cleared of the sheep, conservationists began working to preserve the breed. It still is considered critical, but with the help of handspinners, the breed is growing well.

The wool is springy and fun to spin. The finished yarn will have extreme elasticity and "poof." It's high loft works well to show off cables.

The batt is 100% Hog Island wool from a small American farm. I've washed and carded the wool from raw fleece. This was wool that I used in my subscription-based breed study club. If you'd like to know what others thought about the breed and this wool, check us out on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/groups/inspiration-fibers.
