Here is one Vintage Rooster Match Box Safe Holder Made in Japan that I found in the original box.

There were many Japanese import companies that created housewares during the 1960's and this particular Match Box Safe or Holder was manufactured by a company called VG Japan.

This match safe somewhat reminds me of the Holt Howard Rooster line. It was not uncommon at all for the Japanese import companies to watch their competition and create similar goods when certain items were popular and selling well to consumers.

This rooster on the front features brown hues or colors. VG Japan called the color bronze

The match box safe measures about 7 inches tall to near where the hole is located. It measures about 3 inches across on the front by about 2 inches on the sides.
All measurements are approximate.

There is a hole at the top so you can hang this on your wall if you want with the right hardware.
Hanging hardware not included.

On one side there is a slit so that you can see inside the match box safe. The other side does not have that slit.

On the back of the match box is the original label which reads VG JAPAN

The front of the box reads as follows.
Bronze Rooster
MATCH BOX
Bronze Rooster Products
Something to Crow About
NO. 558
copyright V-G INC. JAPAN

There is also a paper label on the one side of the box indicating it is from Japan where there is some clear tape.

Might be nice to display if you collect Vintage Rooster items, Match Boxes or Match Holders or vintage 1960s home decor. Of you like the farmhouse look.

Condition
No bad smells.

I found this match box in the original cardboard box it came in years ago, but it had been torn open by the previous owner.

When originally imported here, colored straw was used as a filler in the box. After sitting in the original box for decades filled with that straw, the tan colored straw stained or discolored some areas of the match box.

I delicately wiped down the match box as much as possible, but I was not able to get all of the straw color off in all areas so it may be permanent.

The match box is dusty and I was not able to wash it completely as there is the original sticker on the back and I did not want to get it wet. The new owner may want to do a more thorough cleaning and I will leave that up to the buyer.

There is some crazing, bubble pops and bubble bursts which is not unusual for these kinds of older Japanese imported ceramic wares.
There are extra bits and bumps of ceramic here and there as this was just the way it was made.

On one side there is an indent and a chip that measures about 1/4 inch. Some scratches and wear to the finish from storage.

Condition of Box

I can't close the box all the way on the top.
There are rips, tears, wrinkles and creases to the box and labels. There is some clear tape on the labels.
The box top is hanging on by a thread and could come off at any moment. but I think it is kinda neat to have the original box it came in years ago.
Some straw bits may be in box.
No bad smells or odors.
Shows vintage storage, age and wear.

Please see all the photographs and pardon the glare from camera flash. Zoom in for better detail.

Note different computer monitors show different colors.

I placed a store bought match box inside the match holder in one of my pictures for scale. This is just a prop and is not part of the listing.
