A rare French, antique, glass jar from Bazar Hotel de Ville Paris from around 1900.

The last one of the three I had.
This glass jar is a rare collectible in wonderful condition. The glass is visibly old and handmade with its characteristic imperfections, bits and bobs and the two mold seams which show the glass was mouth-blown in a mold.

The former owner of this glass jar 'chef de cuisine' in the well known restaurant 'Maxim's Paris' at the beginning of the former century through the roaring twenties...

When he retired he brought some memories with him and among them, this beautiful antique jar that was used in the kitchen of Maxim's.

The jar comes from the 'Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville Paris', a well known department store in Paris,
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bazar_de_l'H%C3%B4tel_de_Ville) and were most probably used especially for restaurants and not in the first place for home use.

The cover of the jar seems to big for the jar, it moves. I understand that these kind of jars were air tight closed by using a special kind of rope and a metal strip.
The jar and lid have some scale that can probably be removed by a long hot soak in water and soda.

The jar is 9.5 cm's high, in inches that will be 3.75"
The diameter is 11 cm's, or 4.33"
This jar is for 1/2 liter, the third image shows the bottom of the jar.

I will ship this curiosity safely wrapped in bubbles and a carton box.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write me, I will gladly reply.

Merci for coming around.
