These industrial factory carts, sometimes referred to as cotton bale or railroad carts, were often used during the 19th and 20th centuries in railroad depots for transporting trunks between train cars, and also in textile and lumber mills for material handling. They were also used in furniture factories for moving large pieces from one artisan to the next.
Most of them were made over 100 years ago in N. Wilkesboro, NC as well as Nashville, TN. They are made from solid hardwoods such as oak, maple, and hickory. This cart measures 64"x30"x17" and weighs roughly 175 lbs.
