This is a Gypsy woman's finger ring dating to about 1800-50. It is size 9(19.4mm) and with one round blue imitation gem stone. The band and mounts are a silver colored alloy and may have been plated originally. Condition is as shown. Gypsies migrated from the Middle East fleeing the Ottoman Turks and settled largely in southeast Europe. They were mistrusted and isolated so their cultures and blood lines were largely self contained. Their costume including jewelry are very distinctive and identifiable.(67cg)

FAQ

Where do these items come from?

The items were purchased at the antiquities auctions in London about 35 years ago. The US dollar was equal in value to the English pound which greatly increased our buying power.
In one Phillips auction alone (now Bonham’s) we purchased 32% of all the lots offered. During this period there was a massive amount of items on the market which will never be repeated again.

We sold the items in the five galleries we owned in Michigan and Florida from 1989-2009. We sold our last gallery in 2009 and are selling the remaining stock online.

Are the rings wearable?

The rings we offer are wearable with care. We recommend removing the rings for sporting or exercise activity but are generally suitable for daily wear.

Can the rings be sized?

Because of the age of the material we do not recommend sizing the rings. If you are looking for a specific size please contact us and we will see if we have something that may be suitable.
