Goddess Pendant

Turquoise, the "fallen skystone", "gem of the centuries", is indigenous to the Americas, Egypt, ancient Persia (Iran), Tibet and China. Throughout human history, the stone has been revered and admired for its beauty and reputed spiritual life-enhancing qualities. The oldest known piece of jewelry, a turquoise bracelet, was found on the wrist of a 7000 year-old mummified Egyptian queen (bless her heart).

Northwest of Shanghai is the Ma'ashan turquoise mine, and the Hubei Province produces turquoise colors reminiscent of the much-prized blues and greens of the now closed mines in Nevada.

The subtleties in this goddess are stunning -- glimpses of the traditional turquise color mixed in dark almost black greens and grays.

She is in a classic goddess pose, arms raised, in prayer or rejoicing. Some interpretations say that the raised arms are to invoke spiral-power, dynamism, creativity and life-force.

She is set off with a Swarovski crystal and wire-wrapped with sterling silver, to a sterling silver necklace bail.

The pendant drops approximately 2-1/4" (5.71 cm).

My pieces are handmade. They are an opportunity to support handmade, rather than mass-produced, goods and a chance to support an independent craftsperson. When you buy handmade, you not only help artists; you reap good karma.
