Drippy Slip Mug

About – These mugs feature a loose, drippy texture of soft flowing clay. I make the texture by adding slip (watered down clay) to the mugs right after I finish throwing them. I drag through the slip to create ridges which will drip down where they are thickest. It's a little like finger painting in 3D. Variations in thickness and gravity make each piece a surprise. Besides enhancing the shape of the mug, the ridges catch and channel the melting glazes as they flow down the mug. I use a combination of 4 glazes to get the variations and flow that I like. So I get another surprise when the glaze firing is over, and I see how the glazes blended and moved.

Details – These mugs are approximately 3.5” tall, 3.25” wide (at the widest point) and hold a about 11 ounces of your favorite hot or cold beverage. Because I make each piece individually by hand, there will be slight variations in dimensions from one piece to the next. Handles are also cut, pulled to a taper, and attached individually, and all the joints are blended and smoothed. I make the handles extra wide at the top so it rests comfortably on your fingers. All my functional pottery is food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe.
