This handsome old oak Oxen or Mule yoke is in very good condition with consideration of it's age which is estimated at mid 1800's to perhaps, very early 1900s. It is hand carved (as were most of these yokes back then) it has age cracks and a few worm holes as to be expected.

The wood is hand hewn, you can tell by looking at it in certain light. I have those pic's somewhere if you are interested in seeing them.
The metal is heavy iron.

The stays (yokes) are of differing sizes which is typical as not all Mules and Oxen are the same size when paired up, although logic states they should be close in size in order to work together, as these were "close" in size.

One neck stay is 21-inches and the other is 18+1/2-inches long, the insides of both stays are 6-inches wide, (to me that doesn't seem very wide for an Ox, which leads me to believe this may have been a Mule yoke). The entire length of the yoke is 34-inches long, 3-inches wide (or thick) and from top to botton is almost 4-inches.

It is a substantial piece. The iron ring that holds the ropes/chains for the animals is 5+1/2-inches in diameter.

About shipping...I recently (mid June of 2012) shipped a 83 x 67 genuine holstein cow hide (rug) to Alberta, Canada. This weighs about the same and would be in approximately the same size box. That with insurance cost $62.00. I will be figuring about the same, maybe a little more to be cautious to ship to Canada. The other countries will follow suit.
What I did with the hide was, I packaged it up and hauled it to the PO with the address and got the exact amount and came back to update the RESERVED listing with the corrected shipping cost before they made the purchase.
That worked very well. I will do this again with your agreement. The shipping may turn out to be less, who knows!
However, if you make the purchase as the listing stands, and the shipping costs are less. if you want insurance on this item, it will be extra and you must plan for that, do not assume insurance comes automatically with shipping. That is a purchaseable item from the Postal Service.

That said, this is a great opportunity for someone to own one of these stunning pieces for their home or business. I do recommend that you clean this item by giving it a light coating of a high quality oil, maybe 2 coats. When I brought it home I hosed it down to remove any dirt and dust that was on it and let the sun dry it, I did nothing else to it. And now, I present it to you.
