These Decorative shoulder pads with 3D bird on one of the shoulders “Whispers of Whiskered Pitta” is the second piece of Malvine.lv summer 2012 conceptual accessories collection “The Last Dodo”.
Whiskered Pitta (Pitta kochi) belongs to vulnerable species living in Philippines. The number of whiskered pitta’s is rapidly reducing because of destruction of its natural habitat forest and because of hunting with special snares. It’s nice pigeon like wooing voice might not be heard across the Philippines’ woods for much longer.
These super cool and colorful shoulder pads a will make you look irresistible in a fancy summer cocktail party. And you never know what secrets will the Whiskered Pitta whisper in your ear :)
The 3D bird sitting on the right shoulder is “hand build” by my. It is about 14 cm (5, 5 inches) tall and covered with seed beads.
The shoulder pads are approximately 10 cm (3.9 inches) in diameter and are covered with neon colored weed beads. In the inner side (to the neck) is a golden colored rucked band.
Each shoulder pad is attachable with 5 brooch pins.
The sholder pads are connected (as a necklace) with three different neon colored (with gold) braids (braided of satin and synthetic bands).
If any questions - please dont't hesitate to contact me, because, the piece is specific and I would love to explain more about the "tricks"how to better wear it!

The summer 2012 collection „The Last Dodo” is a tribute to colors, fun and most of all- birds. The collection consists of pieces in each of which one endangered species of birds is featured.
Birds have been a huge inspiration for Malvine.lv since forever. This time while creating a concept for Sumer 2012 collection I decided that it is time to give back to our flying friends.
There are about 400 endangered bird species in the world (and that is just the globally endangered ones, there are still species that are special local concern). Most of the endangerment is caused by the actions of men – is it the agricultural or other economical activities, climate change or hunting.
The collection name is inspired by mysterious and unfortunately already few hundred years extinct bird – Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) which as well is featured in the collection as a brooch. Last dodo died just after 80 years people had first discovered it. I think that Dodos terrifying destiny must be taken as an impulse for helping the ones that are still cheering us with their songs and looks.
