Vajradhara, in union with Prajnaparamita, 5 x 7" Buddha Bodhisattva Mahayana Vajrayana Buddhism yabyum consort enlightenment
Materials: gouache, gold paint, shell gold, mineral paints, natural pigments, Rublev colors, windsor and Newton paint, Daniel Smith watercolors
Buddhā Vajradhāra is the primordial Buddha, the Dharmakaya Buddha. He is depicted as dark blue in color, in yab yum embrace with his energy consort (sakti) Prajnaparamita. His quality is the quintessence of buddhahood itself and represents the essence of the historical Buddha's realization of enlightenment.
(this image is part of the larger painting called Chod - you can see it in other listings.)
Prajnaparamita holds a curved knife and skullcup, and Vajradhara holds a bell and vajra.
Visual symbolism can be easily misunderstood, and in fact early explorers coming to Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal for the first time were shocked at the use of so much sexual imagery. But Buddhism is practical. Sex is a natural expression of life, and a perfect metaphor for many types of ideas. Here it symbolizes the primordial union of wisdom and compassion. Male represents compassion, and female, insight and wisdom.

Beautiful piece, arrived on time.
Unusual & enlivening this style of Vajrayogini. Love the rich colorations, & the quality of the print is amazing. I like the smaller size in this however I am already envisioning a larger piece of Laura’s astounding work. Truly exceptional!
This is a really wonderful, well conceived, and visually beautiful deck. I have several prints of Laura's artwork, which I absolutely adore, and it's a delight to get to spend time with more of her work and the archetypes she so lovingly invokes in these oracle images.
