Pale grey linen morning suit waistcoat by Gieves (& Hawkes) of 1 Savile Row. This item bears a label simply saying 'Gieves Ltd', and therefore pre-dates the amalgamation with Hawkes, which was in 1974; but this item is definitely much earlier than that.

Correct wear for any period from 1900 to 1960.

This is a quality, premium heritage item, coming as it does from this famous London tailor with three royal warrants, founded in 1771, who outfitted Prince William for his wedding, David Livingstone, Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Charles Laughton (as Captain Bligh in 'Mutiny on The Bounty'), The Duke of Wellington, The Prince Of Wales, Prince Harry, Princess Diana, The Duke of Edinburgh and Admiral Lord Nelson (and even James Bond!) before him, in addition to the best military uniforms for the highest ranks of the British army and navy and the Royal Marines.

Size 40 (chest). Adjustable waist strap, so some leeway on the size.

Lined with white silk and soft grey flannel/winceyette/brushed cotton/moleskin. Has silk loops to fasten onto your braces buttons to prevent a gaping gap between the trousers and waistcoat, and also loops at the chest to keep your braces in place so they do not slip and show at the neckline. Wide lapels and a deep double-breasted crossover date this as probably from about 1935-1940. Pearl buttons and two watch/change pockets lined with white cotton.

A couple of small inconspicuous darns and tiny frays, and uneven fading to the grey lining part, but otherwise excellent condition.

Please ask as many questions as you need to ensure this item will fit you, and I will be most happy to help in any way I can, as I regret I do not give refunds for garments that do not fit. Thankyou.
