Glamorous 1930s Art Deco Streamline Coffeepot by Salem China in a classic white Art Moderne platinum 4-ringed design w/ atomic influences, gorgeous and incredibly rare ~ the platinum is so thick and rich one expects it to start dripping...goes well with diamonds, or the other matching pieces we have listed separately!

This listing is for:

* 1 Coffee Pot with Lid = 7.5" high [19cm] by 9" from handle to spout [22.9cm]
* 2 Cups & Round Saucers, same pattern

Please Note: This listing qualifies for our Wedding Registry Discount program, as do the other pieces in this pattern we regularly list, please inquire for more details. Current listings include a dinnerware service for 12, cups & saucers, gravy boats, cream & sugar set; see our Atomic Salem China section for specific listings: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SusabellaBrownstein?section_id=7195421

This pot came from an Ohio woman's estate, and unfortunately at some point sustained a crack midway up near the spout, rendering it usable only for display (unless you found a way to seal the crack to make it waterproof again!) We normally don't sell damaged items, but this piece is so rare, and in otherwise great shape, that we decided to make it available. Enjoy!

An interesting anomaly is the platinum on its spout, or rather the lack thereof: we had 2 pots from this woman's collection and as shown in the last photo, the spout on this pot, the one on the left, is white on the top instead of being covered entirely as most others we've seen are. The makers marks were also different - this one simply says "Streamline by Salem" while the other one was "Salem" a Puritan woman's profile and "Made in America, Streamline Pattern".

Other than the crack and some light surface wear to some of the platinum, this coffeepot is in very good vintage condition - some light crazing, but no chips, discoloration, etc.

:: Care & Handling ::
As with any china this fragile, this set should not be used in microwaves, and we strongly recommend hand washing. Where there is surface crazing, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, beets, etc).

PLEASE NOTE: Vintage and antique dishes were often decorated with glazes containing varying amounts of lead, a toxic chemical. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure to lead when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if piece is cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; hand wash with a gentle detergent soon after use and allow to air dry.

:: Salem Streamline • Salem Tricorne ::
Atomic, architectural, Salem China's Streamline & Tricorne shapes smashed into the well-ordered design world of line and curve with Jetson-like conical shapes, sharply angular handles, and curvy triangular plates, saucers, and bowls in a variety of colors and designs (the plates, saucers & bowls tended to be marked 'Tricorne' while the serving ware & drinkware—coffee & teapots, cups, creamers, sugar & serving bowls—were marked 'Streamline' and later, 'Century' and when in black with platinum, 'Harlem Moon').

Designed by Donald Schreckengost (brother of famed industrial designer Victor), Herbert Smith & Vincent Broomhall for the Salem China company, these shapes are so retro fabulous, a set in Mandarin Orange is featured in a Los Angeles County Museum of Art collection!

Produced in a variety of designs and colors—solids like Mandarin orange, banana yellow, grass green, & Egyptian blue; streamlines of platinum, Creamsicle orange, aqua, or gold; and images like these petit point figures, plus floral motifs, polo players atop their horses, sailing ships, card suit symbols—the variety is seemingly endless. It’s our intention to provide the most comprehensive collection of this unique Art Deco dinnerware available online, so for more fantastic Streamline and Tricorne dishes, see our Atomic Salem Dinnerware section:
