Personally, I loath those ice packs you put in the freezer, filled with who knows what toxic blue chemicals. Sure, they are handy, but they are certainly not eco-friendly and if you ask me, no fun to photograph someone using one! A classic and stylish ice cap like this is a fantastic treat for your bumps, bruises, aches, ACME explosive mishaps and other cartoon related injuries! :)

This green and white gingham pattern ice cap, or ice bag, is in excellent condition and does not appear to have been used. It comes in the original box, which is in very good condition with only some shelf wear around the edges. It also has the original price sticker!

Even the original product Certificate of Guarantee slip is included! On the back of the slip is advertised a list of other products from The Faultless Rubber Company for the Home and Hospital, including Faultless Wonder Nipples, Finger Cots, Medicine Droppers and other…um, less pleasant, medical implements. :-\

The ice cap is leak-proof and includes a non-losable washer as advertised! The box says it is Wearever, Model No. 153, 11 inch, Checkered English Folding Style Ice Cap, made by The Faultless Rubber Co., Ashland, Ohio.

The box has quite a bit of printing describing the item's use and care for longevity:

"This "Wearever" Ice Cap is equipped with a special leak-proof cap assembly and non-losable washer. There is no need to apply heavy pressure when closing the cap as the non-losable washer is clamped in at a slight angle making the bag leak-proof by merely screwing cap lightly into place.

This cap is guaranteed against any defect in workmanship or material.

Proper use and care of this "Wearever" Ice Cap will make it last almost indefinitely. Thoroughly dry it after each usage and keep it away from intense heat and pointed instruments.

In hot weather moisture may appear on the outer surface when the bag is first filled with ice. This is not an indication of leakage. Simply wipe the moisture from the bag and it will thereafter remain dry."

I love the manufacturing company name. Faultless, as in, it will not fail. Today, faultless seems more likely to be used in a legal document. Hey, don't blame me! LOL

While this item was patented in the 1920's, I do not believe this particular one was produced until much later and estimate it to be from the 1950's. The reason for that guesstimate is that the cap is made of plastic and not metal. That's actually a good thing because when metal caps get cold, such as using them to cap an "Ice Bag", they tend to bind and are hard to remove! With plastics becoming more readily available in the 50's, this is a great improvement for these products which otherwise retain their original design. Even the model number is unchanged. The black and white checkered pattern is No. 152 and this green and white pattern is No. 153.
