Antique wooden doll chest from the mid 1800s. Pin wood sides and floor, covered with printed paper. Escutcheon from the latch is still in the front panel. Front and back reinforced with wood strips and metal, possibly brass bumpers. Wood strips to keep the chest raised off the floor.

The outside paper is printed with a geometric pattern and the inside and bottom are printed in a flowered pattern.

This was made by hand, most likely as the chest for a child's cherished dolls, and possibly for documents. There are remnants of the hinges, but the lid is missing, as is the original interior shelf that went across the top.

12" wide x 8" high x 7" deep

Everything is yellowed, browned, shabby. The paper is torn, there is a gouge in the wood in the front panel, one of the joinings is loose though still attached. But it's wonderful. Unique, venerable, full of history. A great storage piece.

Antique 1800s doll chest. Child's chest or document box. Papered wood. Victorian rustic primitive.
