I love sari silk... my friends say I play with it... and I guess I do!! It's such fun to use.

*Price is for 1skein*

(always happy to combine items for shipping - any excess shipping paid will be refunded)

There is approximately 100 grams, and usually between 45 and 50 yards of recycled sari silk ribbon in each skein - weight and length does vary slightly from skein to skein.

The remnant pieces of silk have been sewn end to end - sometimes you might find they have been tied together instead... the lengths between joins are random, but often seem to average around 1 yard... sometimes I have found joins about 6 inches apart - others almost 2yards.

Beautiful rich colors and different textures, sometimes patterned pieces, and occasional glimpses of metallic threads in gold or silver.

Soft, scrappy, raggy, earthy, raw pieces of silk - beautiful!!!
For me unwinding each skein is exciting - like finding hidden treasures...

I use a lot of sari silk in my creations...
I have scarves, wraps and necklaces and cuffs in my shop made from recycled sari silk. It is my favourite material... there is nothing else quite like it, and no end to the variety of uses for these remnant pieces of silk - only limited by your imagination!!

The last photo is a scarf I made using this type of silk in a different shade - I used size 15 mm - or more if you can find it - crochet hook to create this scarf . You can crochet the silk as it is straight from the skein, or do as I like to do - cut it and join it with knots to give that extra texture and flamboyant, fun look.
It takes about two skeins to make a scarf like this one.

People are often concerned about caring for their silk piece - but I find the silk is actually quite robust - more so than what you might think.
It can easily be hand washed in cool water with gentle detergent, and simply lay flat to air dry.
The silk may crinkle a little more when washed, and become softer and raggier with wear - but I think that just adds to the natural beauty and random ragged nature of the silk. The scarf in this listing has been washed after being created...

Please contact me if you have any questions at all... and have a look at my shop to find more ideas on what to do with this silk.

Thankyou so much for visiting.
