This bright blue-green stone with red and cream color matrix measures 18x13mm with a 5mm dome and weighs 9.09 carats. It is backed for added strength and ease of setting. The turquoise itself is 100% natural, personally mined and cut by us.

This Stone’s Provenance

This turquoise formed in ancient seafloor shale at what is now known as the Ajax mine in Esmeralda County, Nevada. While the Ajax mine has been known for its unique shades of green turquoise, the ground it occupies has produced almost every color of blue and green turquoise and most matrix patterns, from clear to spiderweb. The mine actually consists of numerous workings that produce a variety of colors and patterns from each "hole". Over the decades, the main turquoise producing area of the Ajax has gone by different names as the claims changed hands. From Oriental Blue during the days of Carl Reik and Walter Godber in the 1930's, to Blue Gem later on, the Ajax mine continues to produce a small amount of both blue and green natural turquoise and it is now considered to be one of the classic turquoise mines of the southwest.

About Turquoise

Turquoise is a very special gemstone...it is a stone connected to life! Two of its main components, phosphorous (much of which comes from ancient bone) and water are critical ingredients of life. Oxygen is also a key element, oxidizing the copper to give turquoise its beautiful colors. Turquoise is truly a gem dependent on a life-giving planet…a rarity, not just here on Earth, but throughout the Universe! Since the time of the ancients turquoise has been revered as a protector and a symbol of sky and water.

Because of its unique composition, each locality where turquoise is found imparts its own character on the stone. Each locality also has its own individual history. Some mines have been worked for turquoise many decades before we now have the fortunate opportunity to carry this history forward.

We hope you will find this stone as inspiring as we do!
