An extraordinary vintage print of 3 maps of Mars by Giovanni Schiaparelli and Breaner:

1. General map of Mars (1877-1888) by Schiaparelli,
2. Map of the twin canals of Mars (1882 and 1888) by Schiaparelli
3. Mars as seen during the planet's "great opposition" of 1877, by Brenner

Among Schiaparelli's contributions are his telescopic observations of Mars. In his initial observations, he named the "seas" and "continents" of Mars. During the planet's "Great Opposition" of 1877, he observed a dense network of linear structures on the surface of Mars which he called "canali" in Italian, meaning "channels" but the term was mistranslated into English as "canals"

This vintage lithographic print was published in a Spanish encyclopedia in the 1920s.

Size approx 9.5 by 6 inches. In excellent condition.
