Hand braided silk obijime in pale pink, done in a circular braid.

Obijimi are used to secure the kimono obi in place, as shown in picture 3. They are created thru a craft called kumihimo, which originated as a method for making lacing for samurai armor.

These beautiful braided sashes. aside from their traditional use, make great belts, straps for bags, and add great textural interest to many forms of fabric arts.

Excellent vintage condition, 58 inches long by 3/8 inch wide.
