Inspired by tea bowls used in the Japanese tea ceremony, this tea bowl was thrown with the emphasis on gesture and movement and then wood fired to be glazed by the ash in the fire and colored by flames.

Great for warming your hands around a hot cup of tea, chocolate, or clam chowder or blitzing out with a bowl of Haagen-Dazs or as a container for that little potted cactus in the ugly plastic pot.

Fired in an anagama kiln (stoked with wood every few minutes, non-stop, for five days) to over 2400 degrees for strength and durability, the outside is naturally glazed by the wood ash and colored by the flames. The ash glaze inside and over the lip of the the tea bowl is a beautiful mottled yellow-green. It is especially nice where it runs down the side, creating a very nice contrast between the yellow-green glaze and the syrupy amber glaze from the fire.

The tea bowl is vitrified so the cup would not leak even if it were not glazed. The ash glaze inside and overlapping the lip is food-safe (and, of course, the natural ash glaze on the outside is food-safe, too). Okay in the microwave and dishwasher.

Approximately 3 3/4 inches tall, 4 1/4 inches in diameter. Holds about 1 1/2 cups.

Buy 4 or more of any cups or mugs or tea bowls in the shop and use Coupon Code "4CUPS" to get 15% off the total order (including pots that are not cups). Buy 6 or more and use Coupon Code "6CUPS" to get 20% off.

The shipping charge is an estimate. If you pay more for shipping than I am actually charged, the difference, if more than $1, will be refunded to you. If you pay less, I take the loss.
