A 1938 10in. Illuminated Glass Library Globe by Replogle Globes, Inc.

An early and visually stunning illuminated glass globe. The mount design is based on James Wilson (America's first globe maker) 1800's globe with turned standards and stretchers. Created in 1938 just prior to WW2 this globe is a testamount to the craftmanship that is evident in the hand blown orb and the hand mounted map gores. Hand blown glass orbs were used for illuminated globes and emit a soft warm glow that cannot be reproduced by plastics. A product that will ultimately replace glass orbs by the late 1950's.

Historically this globe exhibits the early Nazi movement in Europe with the annexation of Austria and the retaking of the Rhineland. Other political borders displayed include; Siam (becomes Thailand in 1939), Manchoukuo (Manchuria invaded and renamed by the Japanese in 1931-45)

The globe does have a crack in the glass as shown in the picture otherwise it is free of any other damage. The globe has a tight spin making it hard to turn. The base is in excellent condition.
