An old friend of mine was a bird expert, especially of shorebirds, so I always have had a soft spot for these birds: they may not have the flashy colors or melodic songs of the songbirds but they have an elegance all their own. The western sandpiper nests on the western coast of Alaska, and winters along our central California coast. It can get rather tricky to get the sandpiper species sorted out, so they are often referred to as ‘peeps’…yes, the original peeps.

I sketched this bird at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, choosing this one in particular for its lovely pose. It is here printed on a map showing part of the Pacific Ocean.

Image size: the bird is 3.75 inches x 3.75 inches (9.5 cm x 9.5 cm)
the map is 6 x 7 inches (15 x 18 cm )
Paper size: 11 x 15 inches (29 x 38 cm)

This piece is sold unframed and shipped flat in rigid packing.
