This handmade colorful crocheted scarf is a bit of a departure for me... I usually immerse myself in a cacophony of numerous colors and textures when I create an art scarf. This one I started out by thinking of those magnificent stained glass windows in the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright - geometric panes with angles and startling colors, all superimposed on a background of white with bold black outlines. Simplicity, elegance, organization - instead of my usual raucous, riotous chaos! Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist, was an important contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group, which was founded by Theo van Doesburg. He evolved a non-representational form which he termed Neo-Plasticism. This consisted of white ground, upon which was painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and the three primary colors. (Thanks, Dora of Etsy shop, Chumaka, for the info!!)

Also kind of brings to mind the preppy style striped rugby shirts...

This scarf is made with all acrylic yarn - so is easy care. THe stitching is quite dense, and will definitely keep the chill away when it gets cool. The bold stripes and lines DO make a statement. This unique art scarf measures 62" long, plus add the 6" fringe at both ends, for a total length of 74". Width measures 5 1/2".

The yarns in this scarf are synthetic - so if you are sensitive to animal fibers, no worries here. I recommend you hand wash this scarf in cold, wrap in a soft fluffy towel to absorb most of the moisture, and lay flat to dry.

I believe that everyone should be able to accessorize and wear gorgeous items every day, and that those items should be affordable. I love bright colors, but also draw my inspiration from the beauty of nature. All of my handmade freeform crochet scarves are my original designs, no pattern used - therefore, most often, they won't/can't be duplicated. Each one is lovingly and carefully created with quality yarns and attention to detail- I consider them fiber art.
