Multicolored leaves and a beautiful barbotine flower adorn the front of this vintage Sand majolica vase. The vase has what I call a Salt and Pepper sand finish on the outside and has that gorgeous aqua color that Majolica pottery was known for on the inside.

There are some tips and chips around the top fluted edge and of course the crackling/craze that is so common in pieces of this area.

There are some chips in the flower and the leaves, two leaves are missing an edge and the stem from the leaf cluster on the right is missing toward the flower.

Also there are a couple of small areas in the back where some of the grains of sand/salt are missing.

Measures: 5 x 2 3/4(base) 4 1/4 from edge to edge opening.

Barbotine is the French for ceramic slip, or a mixture of clay and water and used in slip casting. This technique was employed in 19th century French and American pottery. Slip or barbotine is cast in molds to form three-dimensional decorative sections which when dried out are added to the main vessel.Typically, flowers, fruit, or small animals.

Sanded majolica is a form of Victorian pottery made in Europe and the U.S. between 1850 and 1900.
