Vintage Moon Globe Bank - Late 1960s - Pre Apollo

This is a great little 6" moon globe made by Replogle in the late 1960s that doubles as a bank. Scale 1:22,809,600 or 1 inch = 860 miles and labels the lunar impact and the lunar soft landing sites. This globe was actually produced by Robert I. Johnson, Director and Richard M. Grossman and staff as Cartographers for the Adler Planetarium and Asronomical Museum Replogle was commissioned in 1963 to produce these great globes for the museum.

The earliest site listed on the globe is Lunik 2 by the USSR on September 13, 1959 with the last site being Surveyor 1 on February 6, 1966 by the USA. The globe lists all of the USA Ranger missions as well as some of the Surveyor missions. All the landing sites are marked by a designated symbol as either Impact or soft landing.

The bank is done in grey and muted blue colors. The bank is not quite as detailed as the moon globes but does list all major areas along with the above-mentioned Space Race landings! The back or dark side of the moon shows only the major identified areas. The globe features a half meridian without detail and base finished in a matt gold.

The bank is in good to very good condition. The colors are bright and vivid! There are no dents and only minimal wear in the form of light scattered scratching. There is one spot of oxidation (see pictures 1 & 3). The base and meridian are also in good condition with only minimal wear!

This is one deal not to be missed as you are getting two for the price of one, a moon globe and a bank!

As Always, ENJOY!!!
