Freya’s Hair Salve takes its namesake from the Norse of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses. She is the patron goddess of crops and birth, the symbol of sensuality and was called upon in matters of love. She loves music, spring and flowers, and is particularly fond of the elves (fairies).

A lighter, airier salve, Freya’s Hair Salve heals and protects the ends of hair. Although there is no way to mend split ends, this butter will help damaged hair by smoothing the cuticle, helping to keep dry ends moisturized, and prevent protein loss. This salve is protein-free. It has a clean unisex scent reminiscent of a winter forest draped with newfallen snow.

The generous sample size is perfect for experimenting, gifting, or travel. Our customers report that the sample size most often lasts 3-6 months.

Post-Shower End Protection: Rub a pea-sized dollop between the palms. Starting at the very ends of towel-dried hair, press palms gently together and slide over the ends of the hair. Repeat as necessary, starting up higher on the length of the hair each time until palms are clean of salve. If hair appears greasy when dry, use a smaller amount next time and apply carefully, being mindful to spread the salve evenly. With only such a small amount needed, this jar will last you a very long time!

Deep Treatment: Apply liberally to length of damp or dry hair, let sit under shower cap for 1-2 hours. Wash.

Storage- As unrefined coconut oil melts at 24-25°C (76°F), this product may separate at warmer temperatures and should be stored in a cool place. If it has separated, simply place in the refrigerator and stir often until it is again a solid cream. Freya's Hair Salve has a shelf life of two years unrefrigerated, longer if kept cool.

Key Ingredients:

- Certified Organic Shea Butter- Shea butter is an excellent emollient, meaning that it helps smooth down the cuticle of hair, meaning fewer tangles and less breakage. An upraised cuticle also allows precious moisture to escape from the hair, smoothing the cuticle helps keeps moisture within the hair shaft.

- Herbal Infusion of Rooibos- A flowering plant and a natural hair conditioner, it’s not only great as tea, but also fantastic for your hair. In a study commissioned by a processor of rooibos for use in cosmetic applications, and carried out by an independent laboratory in France, rooibos was perceived to positively affect the hair and 63 percent considered their hair had become smoother and more shiny.

- Pure Refined Coconut Oil- Damaged hair is often protein deficient, and coconut oil is the only oil tested and proven to penetrate the shaft of the hair and reduce protein loss, helping to stop further damage and keep hair strong.

Evening Primrose Oil– Evening Primrose Seed Oil is pressed the seeds of the Evening Primrose plant, Oenothera biennis. The yellow flowers only open in the evening, hence their common name. Evening Primrose Seed Oil is a rich source of gamma linoleic acid, an Omega 6 fatty acid and nourishes the scalp, hair, and even your nails.

Nettle-Infused Oil– Fixed or essential oils are not obtained from this plant but extracts are produced, although not by distillation. The plant, organically grown, is macerated in virgin olive oil to produce nettle oil which contains the lipid soluble constituents. Used for treating eczema and other conditions causing itching of the skin and is natural deep cleanser useful for oily skin and hair. Nettle is also said to promote hair growth.

- Vitamin B5- This critical vitamin helps makes hair more manageable, softer, and shinier.

Horsetail (Shavegrass, Equisetum arvense)– Horsetail, not to be confused with cat-tail, is possibly the most abundant source of silica in the plant kingdom, helping to keep hair strong. Many people believe that horsetail can help speed up hair growth. Some of the ways to take horsetail is to drink it in your tea, take it in capsule form or apply it directly to the scalp and hair.

Burdock Root(Arctium lappa)- Contains mucilage and starches that soothes irritated skin and membranes and is one of the most effective herbs for promoting hair growth and reducing the amount of hair shed.

Love this conditioner. I lost my first conditioner I ordered before I had a chance to use it so I made sure to order another sample sized conditioner to try when I ordered more of the kitsune fox fire herbal hair color. I love hoe great my hair looks when I use this. I got stuck at a hotel without any of this and I realized how much of a difference this conditioner makes when I use it. I have used it three times now and I will make sure to always have some of this on hand so my hair will always look so healthy and soft! Thank you so much for such wonderful, natural products!

I bought samples of all 3. I used Sedr first and then used these mixed together in very small amounts to seal my lightweight conditioner in. The results were profoundly less frizzy, defined curls. These products will always be on hand now.
