This unique, vintage abacus, a "soroban" in Japanese, is hand-crafted in Japan

1/5 soroban - 1 bead above and 5 below - a design used from the late 1800's until the 1930's.

The abacus, famous for being a counting tool used primarily in Asia, actually originated in ancient Mesopotamia. The abacus is still a common mathematical tool used daily throughout all of Asia.

Measures approximately 13" x 3"

Item has a slight bow and wear from normal use
