In a time long ago, when the King went skating on the frozen ponds of his winter chateau, these are the skates he would have worn.

These are actual vintage ice skates that have been painted to look like a tapestry of rich royal purple and opulent gold, with colored rhinestones embedded at each crossing. A tromp l'oeil fleur-de-lis emblem graces the outer ankle. The cuff is of genuine fur, rescued from an antique coat--perhaps mink? Gold and copper ribbon laces are topped with a jewel tone tassel. Even the frost along the runners is a sparkling platinum gold.

There are so many ways to use these skates in your decor for the holidays and right through the winter season. Display this beauty as a centerpiece, highlighted on a mantle or settled on a bottom stair; tuck some velvet around it and set out some jewel toned ornaments for a display that feels at home in a royal Renaissance palace.

These skates have been worn and do show some wear, but nothing that distracts from their opulence. A glossy-finish clear varnish protects the painting, but if you do choose to display outdoors, I would recommend a protected area such as a doorway or porch.

Each skate measures about thirteen inches high and thirteen inches long.

One skate has been sold, only the skate that fits the left foot is available.
