Linen runner, my original Minnows and Mussels design, natural indigo pigments on 100% linen.

Katazome is a centuries-old Japanese textile technique. After creating the design, I carve the stencil using a special Japanese stencil paper. Next, rice paste is "printed" through the stencil onto the cloth and allowed to dry. Natural pigments, using soy milk as a binder, are then are painted on the open areas of the cloth in several coats. The piece is then left to cure for at least a week. Finally, the rice paste is rinsed away, revealing the design. The hand of the cloth is not affected by the process.

Fiber content: 100% natural flax color linen, medium weight

Size: 12" x 62"

Care: The fabric has been pre-washed. Hand wash in cool water, line dry and press. Colors will not bleed or fade. Like any fine textile, do not display in direct sunlight.

A small booklet describing the katazome process is included with each order.
