"Apothecary" original drawing on tea-stained watercolor paper; a miniature OOAK original artwork

I like to mess around with staining and spattering with tea, ink, and paint on paper, then cutting it into smaller pieces, in this case 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" for an ACEO (art cards editions and originals), then deciding what media to use to complete the picture, and then what to draw.

Or sometimes I have an idea for what I want to draw, then I look through the papers I've already prepared, and then choose whether to use pens or watercolors or some other medium.

This ACEO, which I titled "Apothecary," is an example of the former — the image idea came to me in response to the color gradations and patterns that had formed on the paper. Then I used pigment ink pens, watercolor, and a white conte crayon to complete the drawing.

There's a hint of red in the center of the slender leaf (to the left), which may not show up onscreen. Otherwise the leaves are olive colored. The edges have been darkened with a Pitt brush-tip pen in an uneven stroke to fit the style of the drawing and give it a suggestion of a frame. The surface has been sprayed with an acrylic fixative to keep the white conte from rubbing off, but there is no odor from the spray.

It is truly one-of-a-kind. Even if I set out to make another one like it, it would not be the same as this. Indeed, I wouldn't find it very interesting to try to copy my own work! (Or anybody else's, I'll quickly add.)

It will ship in a small rigid mailer and the ACEO itself will be enclosed in a sealed plastic sleeve.
